For WST (Western States Trail) Endurance Run and Tevis Cup participants, this leg is the last uphill after nearly 97 miles and many hours of effort. Winners do 100 miles from Squaw Valley in 24 hours or less, but we can take advantage of shorter segments and do day-trek sized pieces.
On this segment, most hikers stroll downhill until their bodies remind them it’s time to turn around and head for home. Better yet, arrange transportation at the Bridge or loop back using other trails.
No bikes.

From Auburn Staging Area follow signs veering left.
The trail begins at an excellent, equestrian-friendly trailhead within the city limits of Auburn and near the end of the famed Western States Trail at the Auburn Fairgrounds.
This is best if you start at Auburn and hike downhill to the river and arrange a shuttle ride at that end.
