Sierraville/Sierra Valley Back-country Roads

DESCRIPTION:

In this area there are many, many miles, loop combinations, all double track. Most are low-standard roads with very little traffic. But check with the Sierraville Ranger Station for specific roads and suggestions.

If you enjoy double track, lower standard roads, with fairly low vehicle traffic, Sierraville makes a great base to select from -- complete with hot springs/historic hotel opportunities.

Best road options: Lemon Canyon, Bear Valley, Sardine Lookout, Cottonwood Creek, Henness Pass, Sardine Valley, Babbott Peak (Lookout), Badenaugh Canyon, Smithneck Creek, and Antelope Valley. All lie southeast of Sierraville and can be combined to make some great loops. Loyalton also makes a homey base camp.

In charming Carman Valley to the northwest, a couple of interesting low-standard roads offer rolling-hills combinations. In Carman, you’re not likely to see another soul -- until more mountain bike enthusiasts discover it.

Check at Sierraville Ranger Station for road status and best options.
