No bikes or motorized vehicles. Rather than hiking in from the north and Squaw Valley area, this shortcut to Twin Peaks also offers some of the best views of Lake Tahoe anywhere. It’s a bit of a climb, but mostly steady with frequent views. After the route switchbacks and tops the Sierra Crest, leave the trail and continue northeast (right) up the ridgeline in easy scramble to Twin Peaks. Those shrouded gray hills on the skyline to the extreme west are the Coastal Range. To the south lies the Crystal Range. The big puddle a few miles below is Lake Tahoe.
