PCT-01, Richardson Lake north to Barker Pass

DESCRIPTION:

Trailhead is at Barker Pass but the trail can be traveled in either direction.

No bikes or motorized vehicles.

Logged stands are obvious throughout this segment; so although this is a pleasant trail, Pacific Crest Trail Trekkers hell-bent for Canada use this trail more than locals.

Richardson Lake (See East Slope Map) offers Brook Trout fishing (last stocked in 2000) and a nice stopover heading south into Desolation Wilderness.

Ludlum Hut, the most southern of the five huts available to the public and managed by the Sierra Club (see Donner Summit Introduction), sits to the southeast above the lake a few hundred yards. Both Richardson Lake and the Ludlum Hut can be reached via a 4WD road off the Rubicon OHV route and the McKenney Creek route.
