Olmstead Loop Trail

DESCRIPTION:

This area and trail loop is a delightful contrast to the steep surrounding canyons. The area contains rolling hills and open meadows with stretches of pleasant shade and photogenic oaks. The loop is popular for bike riders, including an annual race, but also for equestrians and hikers. If you don’t want to do the big loop, a 30' wide paved road offers a shortcut back. Or trek part way in and then backtrack. Or connect to the Western States Trail or Pointed Rocks trails. In fact, there are so many options, several unsigned, you have to be careful that you stay on the trail. Or take a good map, and just explore some of the places off the beaten path. The last time out, we found an unmarked trail leading to an old homestead, daffodils in the abandoned front yard, magnificent oak, and small pond in the background. About 10 pictures later, we headed back to the car. And this was February!
