Totally delightful trail, especially in spring and fall. Check out Maytag Rapids as you go by heading upriver to the tiny community of Goodyears Bar. Good fishing access. Majestic, old growth pines, firs, and oak woodlands.

Shuttle opportunity at Goodyears Bar. Topographic Map: Goodyears Bar. West trailhead: Rocky Rest Campground next to river. East trailhead: turn right (south) on County Road #300 to Goodyears Bar. Cross North Yuba, turn right at stop sign and trailhead is 0.25 mile farther south on road to Forest City.
The best parking is at Rocky Rest Campground and there is some trailer space available for a few trailers. But there is no equestrian camping available at this campground. The trail is a gentle outing along the river but there are some narrow locations along the trail with a steep fall into the canyon. Neither horse nor rider will work up a sweat. Except in the heat of summer. Parking at the trailhead on the east end near Goodyears Bar is limited.
Single track. Technical for steep side-slopes, creek crossings, switchbacks. The trail gradient rolls up and down on a moderate challenge. In fact it is a nearly perfect single track (s/t) for skilled riders. The trail threads through large old trees or climbs to steep sidehills with open grown live oaks offering far less shade. Watch for shale rock in the tread on these segments.
A loop can be done by using Halls Ranch / Fiddle Ridge Trails and returning to Highway 49 near Indian Outpost. This requires use of 1-2 miles of Highway 49 at each end and there can be lots of high-speed traffic, especially on weekends or holidays. The whole loop is very challenging, technical and physical when adding the Halls/Fiddle Trails. Gung-ho experts only.
