Horses not recommended. This stately mountain standing proudly between Lakes Basin and Jamison Creek, beckons you to climb it from almost every location in Lakes Basin. From the top of Mount Elwell, the height does not allow you to peek over the Sierra Crest, yet you can still spot dozens of lakes in Lakes Basin and Jamison Creek. The trail clamors through interesting rock formations and vegetation varieties.
