If you’re looking to lose yourself and have true Wilderness experiences within hours of millions of people, this trail is the challenge for you. Lower Five Lakes Creek takes on a Mr. Hyde personality as it drops from Diamond Crossing to Hell Hole.
The access on either end discourages usage to zilch. Yet, fishing below Diamond Crossing is the best within Granite Chief Wilderness. And the wilderness experience is the best opportunity within this little Wilderness.
No bikes or motorized vehicles.

Topographic map: Wentworth Springs. From the west via 4WD road on north side of Hell Hole Reservoir. The 4WD road begins off Boundary Road #24 at its junction with Road #2 adjacent to the Forest Service fire station (the intersection lies west of Granite Chief Map. See Overview Map).
There is a gate operated by the water agency that may be closed. If it’s closed, you’ll need to leave your vehicle there.
If it’s open, drive east for 1 mile, then park and trek on to Grayhorse Creek. Trail continues to junction with the Five Lakes Creek Trail, turns left (west), and starts climbing (see Granite Chief Map). From the east -- head downstream from Diamond Crossing.
