Bear Pen Trail


   

DESCRIPTION:

You can climb up the Bear Pen Trail to the high basin underneath the Sierra Crest and Twin Peaks. It's a great way to work up an appetite. It's a great place to find solitude - except during hunting season.

DIRECTIONS:

To Bear Pen Trail

Access Diamond Crossing in the heart of the Granite Chief Wilderness via the Five Lakes Trail, Powderhorn Trail, or for the hearty hikers via the Hell Hole Trail.


ACTIVITIES:

Hunting (Rating: Best)

This is a nice out of the way corner where deer hunting via horse is enjoyed.

Hiking - Dayhikes (Rating: Good)

Difficulty: Challenging Time: 1-2 hours

The climb into Bear Pen basin is 1-2 hours from Diamond Crossing. But it takes 2-3 hours to get to the Crossing via any of the three access trails.

Equestrian Trail Riding (Rating: Good)

Difficulty: Moderate Time: 1 hour

The trail is used mostly by hunters but is a nice ride from Diamond Crossing.
