Developments strung along the major roads between Diamond Springs and its bigger neighbor Placerville has filled in the open space to the point that travelers scarcely notice when they are leaving or entering Diamond Springs. The little community was a stage stop from Placerville, but now visitors tend to drive through town on their way to the surrounding foothills. Historically that was the case too, until one miner discovered a 25 pound gold “nugget” and Diamond Springs became a mini-boomtown.
