If you thought Woodchuck Campground was remote, wait until you get to Sterling Lake. The small lake is mostly private, but six public campsites are available on the west shore. There is a large Boy Scout Camp across the lake. Sound carries across the lake well so if you are seeking solitude avoid times when the Scouts are there. See Sterling Lake. Non-maintained OHV routes lead farther northeast to a marvelous collection of over two-dozen small ponds and a rich collection of flora and fauna enjoying the fertile riparian areas.

Drive 4 miles above I-80 turn left (north) at signs and follow steep and windy dirt road 1.8 miles to Sterling Lake. This road is definitely not recommended for trailers/RVs and it is suitable for low-clearance vehicles and skilled drivers only on good days.
Small boats, car top carriers only.
