Airport Flat Campground

Located on a pinetree flat adjacent to Gerle Creek a little more than a mile above the Gerle Creek Divide Reservoir. Good swimming in the reservoir and at times good fishing for brown trout. The campground has good access to OHV trails including the famed Rubicon 4WD Trail. The campground is popular with OHV fans.

DESCRIPTION:

Season of Use: 6/01--10/15
Elevation 5,300’
16 Family units, tents or trailers or RVs. Sites are arranged in pods to accommodate groups of 15-25 people. No hook-ups for RVs.
No fee.
Vault toilets
Picnic tables
Fire rings
All sites wheelchair accessible
No water. Creek is available but must be treated before using.
No reservations.

Loon Lake lies on the Rubicon River drainage about 6 miles by good road. This also serves as one of the major access points to the Rubicon 4WD Trail.

Located in the Crystal Basin, 27 miles from Highway 50 on Ice House Road (Primary Forest Route 3). Where the road forks to go to Loon Lake or Gerle Creek Campground, take the Gerle Creek branch. The campground is about 3 miles from the fork, on the right.

Nearby activities draw OHV fans. Flat ground and site layout work great for groups.

No piped water, so no fees. Bring your own or treat the creek's water.
